Doha, MINA – A Hamas negotiating delegation survived an Israeli assassination attempt after airstrikes targeted the Qatari capital, Doha, early Tuesday.

The Israeli occupation military, in coordination with its internal security agency Shin Bet, claimed responsibility for the strikes, saying they were aimed at senior Hamas leadership in the Katara district of Doha. According to Israeli Channel 12, the attack targeted Hamas negotiators while they were discussing the latest US-mediated proposal.

A senior Hamas source told Al Mayadeen that the delegation survived the Israeli attempt. Reuters correspondents in Doha reported hearing powerful explosions and seeing smoke rising over the Katara neighborhood.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as a “cowardly Israeli attack” on residential compounds housing members of Hamas’ political bureau, stressing that Doha would not tolerate any act threatening its security and sovereignty.

Israeli media also reported that US President Donald Trump gave the green light for the strikes, since Washington maintains control over Qatari airspace, requiring Israel to coordinate before conducting such operations. Following the attack, the US Embassy in Doha advised American citizens to remain indoors.

Meanwhile, Hamas reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire framework proposed by mediators on August 18. The group emphasized its openness to any initiative that would secure a permanent ceasefire, ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, guarantee the entry of humanitarian aid, and enable a genuine prisoner exchange.

Hamas further confirmed it had received new American proposals through mediators to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement. The movement stressed the need for clear guarantees that Israel would abide by any commitments, citing its history of reneging on past agreements.[]
