AWG Urges World Leaders to Guarantee Safety of Global Sumud Flotilla

Bekasi, MINA – The humanitarian convoy known as the Global Sumud Flotilla has once again come under attack. In response to the incident, the Aqsa Working Group (AWG) is demanding that world leaders guarantee the safety of activists involved in the humanitarian mission to Gaza.

On Tuesday, the vessel Alma, while anchored in Tunisian waters, was attacked by a drone, which caused a fire on its upper deck. According to a written statement from the Global Sumud Flotilla on Wednesday, the fire was extinguished, and all passengers and crew aboard the British-flagged ship are safe.

Earlier that same day, the main ship of the flotilla, the Portuguese-flagged Family Boat, was also targeted. The vessel was carrying members of the GSF steering committee, including global environmental activist Greta Thunberg. The attack resulted in a fire on the main deck and in a storage room, but all six passengers and crew were successfully rescued.

Muhammad Anshorullah, the chairman of the AWG Presidium, strongly condemned the consecutive attacks on the Global Sumud Flotilla. He called the act “cowardly and barbaric terrorism” intended to intimidate and sabotage the humanitarian mission to Gaza.

“I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. Whoever is behind it must be a supporter of the Zionist Israeli genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people,” he asserted.

According to Anshorullah, the attacks will not silence the global outcry in defense of the Palestinian people. Instead, he believes the incidents will only intensify the international community’s hatred toward the “Zionist Israeli entity and all its supporters.”

He urged the Tunisian government and world leaders to prevent any further intimidation of the Global Sumud Flotilla and to provide full safety guarantees for the humanitarian activists.

“The global community must unite and speak out to protect the Sumud Flotilla mission. All eyes are on the Sumud Flotilla,” he concluded.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is an international voyage carrying activists from various countries to break the Gaza blockade and raise humanitarian solidarity for the Palestinian people. []
