Global Sumud Flotilla Ship Attacked by Drone off Tunisian Coast, All Passengers Safe

Tunis, MINA – A vessel of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), known as the Family Boat, was attacked by a drone on Monday night (Sept. 8) while sailing under the Portuguese flag in Tunisian waters. The ship was carrying members of the GSF Steering Committee.

In an official statement received by MINA on Tuesday morning, GSF confirmed that all six passengers and crew members were unharmed. A fire that briefly spread across the main deck and storage area was quickly extinguished. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.

Reports from Tunis identified the vessel as the Familia Madeira, carrying international activists including Thiago Ávila, Greta Thunberg, and Yasmin. Although the attack initially caused panic, security protocols were promptly activated, and local authorities are now handling the situation.

“Any act of aggression aimed at intimidating or sabotaging our mission will not deter us. Our peaceful journey to break the Gaza blockade and show solidarity with its people will continue with unwavering determination,” the GSF declared.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is an international humanitarian mission involving dozens of ships from various countries. It seeks to deliver food, medicine, and essential supplies to Gaza, which remains under Israeli blockade.[]
