US Expresses Concern over Crisis in Rakhine State

Washington, MINA – US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke with Burma’s Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and expressed grave concern about the continuing humanitarian crisis and reported atrocities in Rakhine State.

Tillerson urged, “Burma’s security forces to support the government in ending the violence in Rakhine State and allowing the safe return home of those displaced during this crisis, especially the large numbers of ethnic Rohingya,” KUNA reported, citing a statement from State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert late Thursday.

He pressed for the military to provide humanitarian aid for those displaced, media access, and cooperation with the UN to allow an investigation into human rights abuses.
