Tel Aviv, MINA – The Israeli military identified one of its targets in Gaza as a “secret headquarters” of Hamas used by its intelligence services and located in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, on Monday evening.

“Fighter jets just now attacked a three-story building in the area of Sabra in the Gaza Strip. This is a secret headquarters of the Hamas terror group, which is used by the internal security, central intelligence and military intelligence branches of the group,” the IDF said in a statement.

Palestinian media said the building, which was leveled in the Israeli attack, belonged to the Al-Multazem insurance company.

The Israeli military later released footage of the strike, showing a missile striking the building and triggering a large explosion.

A hole in the top of the structure indicated that the air force had used the “knock on the roof” technique, in which a non-explosive round is fired at the building to scare off those inside before the real attack, Times of Israel reported.

Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett, reporting from the Gaza-Israel border, said several empty buildings associated with Hamas have been hit.

“From our colleagues inside Gaza, we’re hearing that so far, the targets seem to have been empty training camps associated with Hamas’ military wing […] also a sea base as well,” Fawcett said.

Later he said a building “right in the middle of densely populated Gaza city” had been “entirely destroyed”.

Ambulances were on the scene, but there had four small warning explosions prior to the largest one that flattened the building that may have allowed people to get out of the area. (T/RI-1/R04)
