Indonesian National Zakat and UNRWA Signs MOU for Helping Palestinians

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in an effort to provide assistance and protection to the Palestinians who are victims of the conflict in their country.

The signing of the cooperation agreement was carried out by the Deputy Chairman of the BAZNAS Zainulbahar Noor and the representative from UNRWA, which was witnessed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno LP Marsudi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, Riyad Al-Maliki at Pancasila building, Indonesian Foreign Ministry of Affairs, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/16).

Zainulbahar Noor said, this cooperation focuses on the problem of vulnerable Palestinian refugees and relies on UNRWA assistance to fulfill their basic needs.

“BAZNAS is committed to helping the Palestinians, like refugees who are currently under UNRWA protection. The number of refugees registered around five million people who spread in different countries like Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, “he said.

He added, in this case, the BAZNAS will raise aid funds for the Palestinians, for two years of cooperation, from funds collected every six months and would be handed over to UNRWA to support its programs, especially in education and health.

“The form of support from BAZNAS consists in the form of campaign promotion in Indonesia and contributing to UNRWA every six months to support its programs,” said Zainulbahar Noor who also served as Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine.

BAZNAS continues to support the Palestinians who struggle with limitations. There have been various programs channeled through collaboration with local and international institutions, ranged from basic needs in the form of food and beverages to assistance for school buildings and medical care.
