Damascus, MINA – Israeli forces entered an area in the western countryside of Syria’s Daraa province on Saturday, marking another reported incursion into southern Syria, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

SANA reported that a force comprising two Israeli military vehicles entered the Wadi al-Ruqqad area. The incursion coincided with Israeli reconnaissance aircraft flying over the western part of the Yarmouk Basin.

No attacks or arrests were reported during Saturday’s incursion, according to the agency.

On Friday, Israeli forces entered an area west of the al-Razaniya farm in neighboring Quneitra province and opened fire toward shepherds to prevent them from grazing their livestock before withdrawing, SANA reported.

Israeli forces also entered and surrounded the town of Abidin in the Yarmouk Basin, in western Daraa countryside, on Friday.

The latest developments come amid repeated Israeli military incursions into southern Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, including movements into areas near the buffer zone separating Syrian and Israeli forces.

The buffer zone was established under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, which followed the 1973 Arab-Israeli war and created a United Nations-monitored area between the two sides.

The Syrian government has repeatedly condemned Israeli incursions as violations of its sovereignty and the 1974 agreement, calling for Israeli forces to withdraw from Syrian territory.

Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967 and annexed the territory in 1981. The annexation has not been recognized internationally.

Following the fall of the Assad government, Israel announced that the 1974 agreement had collapsed and moved forces into the demilitarized buffer zone and other positions, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.

Damascus has called on the United Nations and international organizations to intervene, halt Israeli military operations, and ensure respect for Syria’s sovereignty and the disengagement agreement.

The recurring incursions have raised concerns about security and stability in southern Syria, particularly in border areas near Daraa and Quneitra, where military movements and restrictions on local residents have been reported.[]
