Jakarta, MINA – University students from across Indonesia are holding demonstrations on Tuesday to mark the second anniversary of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration, voicing criticism of government policies on the economy, democracy, corruption, the environment, and education.
The demonstrations are centered at two locations in Central Jakarta: the Tugu Tani area on Jalan Raya Kebon Sirih and Tugu Proklamasi in Menteng.
Yatalathof Ma’shum Imawan, chairman of the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI), confirmed that UI students would join participants from several other universities and a civil society coalition.
He said the protesters intended to raise concerns over a range of public issues and assess the government’s performance during its first two years in office.

Yatalathof said the problems that had emerged during the administration had prompted students and civil society groups to convey their demands directly.
“Why evaluate a two-year government that has failed? We are moving because there is no more hope,” he said.
The participating student organizations include BEM UI, KM ITB, Unpad, BEM Undip, BEM Unnes, Sema UGM, BEM UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, BEM Unair, and EM UB.
Through the demonstrations, students and civil society groups are expressing criticism of government policies and highlighting issues they believe have not been adequately addressed or have fallen short of public expectations.

Prabowo and Gibran took office in October 2024. During their first two years, the administration has faced public debate over economic conditions, the cost of living, environmental problems including forest and land fires, and concerns about democracy and corruption eradication.
Student demonstrations have long played a role in Indonesia’s political life, with campus organizations frequently mobilizing to demand policy changes and government accountability.
The latest protests provide a platform for students and civil society groups to express their assessments of the administration’s performance as it enters its third year.[]
