Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia and Egypt have strengthened their bilateral relations by announcing four cooperation agreements during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s state visit to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Sunday.

President El-Sisi was received by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the two countries sought to expand their strategic partnership and promote cooperation across multiple sectors.

The four agreements cover a strategic partnership action plan, visa exemptions for certain passport holders, statistics, and marine affairs and fisheries.

The agreements comprise a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Strategic Partnership Action Plan; an MoU on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports; an MoU on statistics; and an MoU between Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Egypt on marine affairs and fisheries.

Speaking at a joint press statement, President Prabowo said the agreements reflected both countries’ commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.

“This visit has produced a number of bilateral agreements. Marine and fisheries cooperation, statistical cooperation, investment cooperation, defense industry cooperation, trade and economic cooperation, as well as the strategic partnership action plan,” Prabowo said.

The agreements are intended to broaden cooperation between the two countries in diplomatic, economic, and maritime affairs. They also provide a framework for further engagement in areas of mutual interest.

The Strategic Partnership Action Plan is expected to guide closer coordination in political, economic, and cultural affairs. Meanwhile, the visa exemption arrangement is aimed at facilitating travel for eligible diplomatic and government passport holders.

Cooperation in statistics is expected to support data exchange and institutional capacity building, while the agreement on marine affairs and fisheries opens opportunities for collaboration in the management of marine resources and the fisheries sector.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss regional and international developments, including the situation in Palestine and the wider Middle East. Indonesia and Egypt reiterated their support for the Palestinian cause and called for de-escalation and respect for international law.

Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing humanitarian assistance for Gaza and supporting efforts toward its recovery and reconstruction.

Indonesia and Egypt have maintained diplomatic relations since Egypt recognized Indonesia’s independence in 1947. The latest agreements reflect continued efforts to expand cooperation between the two countries, including in trade, investment, and the defense industry.
