Jerusalem, MINA – The Islamic Endowment Authority confirmed that around 90,000 Muslims performed the first Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan at the Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, Palinfo reported.
Palestinian worshippers were stopped for hours at the Israeli Qalandiya checkpoint, which separates the occupied West Bank from occupied Jerusalem, despite stormy weather.
Some worshippers were allowed to pass through the checkpoint to reach the Aqsa Mosque on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
Israeli police had earlier announced their intention to deploy 3,000 police forces on Friday, in occupied Jerusalem, ahead of Friday prayers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has also announced that his government will limit the number of worshippers from the occupied West Bank allowed to enter the Aqsa Mosque for Friday prayers.
Under the new restrictions, only men aged 55 and over, women aged 50 and children under 12 will be allowed to enter on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan. []
