Gaza, MINA – The Israeli occupation army expanded its control over the remaining parts of the ash-Shuja’iya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, on Sunday, forcing hundreds of Palestinians to flee their homes.
According to the Palestinian Information Center, Israeli forces moved yellow concrete blocks dozens of meters westward, bringing the entire neighborhood under Israeli military control. Hundreds of residents were forced to leave after their homes fell within the newly marked Yellow Line.
The outskirts of ash-Shuja’iya have come under shelling and building demolitions in recent days. Gaza’s Civil Defense said hundreds of Palestinians had been displaced from the area since Friday.
The latest developments came one year after the ceasefire agreement took effect in October 2025, amid continued Israeli violations and diminishing hopes for improved living conditions in Gaza. Restrictions on humanitarian aid and essential supplies have further hindered efforts to improve conditions for residents.

The worsening crisis has left Palestinian families struggling to obtain basic necessities, particularly food, as poverty and displacement continue to rise.
In Khan Yunis, 35-year-old Nihaya al-Masri, a mother of eight, represents the daily struggle facing many families. She supports her children alongside her husband, who suffers from leg injuries.
Al-Masri spends approximately six hours each day waiting in line at a charitable kitchen for limited portions of rice, lentils, and a small amount of chicken. The food provides her family with their only meal of the day.
She said the charitable kitchen was her family’s sole source of food and that, without its assistance, she and her children would have nothing to eat.

The expansion of Israeli control over ash-Shuja’iya is part of a broader pattern of military operations that have continued despite the ceasefire agreement. The Yellow Line, established under the truce, has reportedly been moved westward by Israeli forces, further restricting the area available to Palestinians.
The displacement from ash-Shuja’iya adds to the repeated waves of forced displacement across Gaza since October 2023. According to the UN, more than 1.9 million Palestinians have been displaced, many multiple times, and are living in overcrowded conditions with limited access to food, water, and healthcare.
Gaza’s humanitarian situation remains critical. More than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 175,000 injured since October 2023, while approximately 90 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been destroyed, according to figures cited in the report.
The ceasefire agreement was intended to facilitate greater humanitarian access and reconstruction. However, implementation has stalled amid continued Israeli military operations and restrictions on aid and essential supplies.
