Jakarta, MINA — Muhammad Anshorullah, Chair of the Presidium of the Aqsa Working Group (AWG), has endorsed a proposal from Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana of Universitas Indonesia suggesting that Jusuf Kalla (JK), Indonesia’s former vice president, should lead an interim government for Gaza. He argued that JK would be a more credible figure than former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose name has been linked to international peace plans for Gaza.
“Compared to Tony Blair, JK is far more realistic, fair, and independent in supervising Gaza,” Anshorullah said in a statement.
The discussion comes in response to a reported proposal connected to US President Donald Trump, which included establishing a “Board of Peace” to govern Gaza during its transitional phase. Blair was allegedly considered for a leading role in that body.
Anshorullah firmly rejected the idea, saying: “Tony Blair is a troublemaker in the Middle East. He is not the right figure to lead Gaza. On the contrary, his record only adds to instability.”

AWG emphasized that Blair’s controversial role in the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 disqualified him from any credible peace initiative. “He supported a war based on false claims of weapons of mass destruction. The invasion caused massive destruction and human suffering. Many have called him a war criminal,” Anshorullah added.
By contrast, he argued that Jusuf Kalla offers the qualities needed to help Gaza move forward. “JK has strong moral and political capacity. He has successfully mediated conflicts in Poso, Aceh, and even Afghanistan. He is respected across the Islamic world and has the networks needed to stabilize Gaza and assist with reconstruction,” he said.
Anshorullah also called on the Indonesian government to act on the proposal. “We hope President Prabowo Subianto will formally convey Jusuf Kalla’s name to President Donald Trump. This is a concrete way Indonesia can stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people,” he concluded.[]
