Indonesia-Taiwan Deepen Cooperation in Various Fields

Jakarta, MINA – The relationship between Indonesia and Taiwan is on the principle of mutual benefit and both two countries continue to deepen cooperation in various fields such as agriculture, trade investment, and talent development.

This was conveyed by the Head of Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) John C. Chen on the commemoration of Taiwan’s National Day or referred as the 107th Double Tenth Day in Jakarta, Tuesday (9/10).

John Chen explained, in the field of agriculture, Taiwan and Indonesia are now carrying out various programs including the “Karawang Agricultural Guidance Zone” and the “Excellent Rice Seed” program to help local farmers increase the quantity and quality of agricultural products, thereby will improve the welfare of Indonesian farmers.

“In the trade economy, Taiwan’s direct investment in Indonesia has reached $ 397 million in 2017, doubling from 2016. Bilateral trade volume has reached $ 8.1 billion with a growth of 15.7%,” he added.

Meanwhile, in the field of talent development, he said, the number of Indonesian students in Taiwan increased from 5,200 to 7,200 in 2018, making Indonesia the fourth largest source of foreign students in Taiwan.

“In addition to providing many scholarships to Indonesia, the Taiwan government also provides many opportunities in education and training in related fields such as agriculture, machinery and health care to the people of Indonesia,” he said.

“We believe that under the continuous promotion of the New South Policy, our close cooperation between Taiwan and Indonesia will continue,” added John Chen.

The commemoration of the national day was held by TETO which was attended by a number of government officials, members of parliament, the Indonesian diplomatic corps, Chinese community leaders, Taiwanese businessmen, intellectuals, artists, the media including the MINA News Office leaders and various layers of society more than 1,000 people attended the event.
