TALIBAN CONDEMN GERMANY’S SOLDIER COMMITMENT TO AFGHANISTAN

Kabul, 11 Jumadil Akhir 1434/21 April 2013 (MINA) – The Taliban group in Afghanistan strongly condemned Germany’s commitment to keep its soldiers in Afghanistan beyond 2014, after majority of the NATO combat soldiers leave the country.

“We strongly condemn the decision made by the German defense minister who announced that it will keep a number of its soldiers for an extended period of time in Afghanistan to prolong its occupation as well as the killing and oppression of the persecuted Afghan nation,”  a statement released by Taliban group spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid said, according to Khaama Press report on Saturday (20/4) as monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

The Afghan media reported Mujahid in his statement further added the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wants to clarify to Germany and to its people that the Afghan nation will never accept the military presence of their occupying troops and they will not be spared from attacks of the Mujahideen in the upcoming year.

“We counsel the German people to prevent their government from helping America in occupying Afghanistan and oppressing the Afghan nation and to avoid prolonging the persecution of the Afghan people for the benefit and interests of America,” Mujahid said.

Accourding to Taliban group, this futile war was America’s war of fancy which regretfully also drew in other nations and senselessly spilt the blood of the Afghans.

“If Germany wants to continue its hard headedness and irrational policy then the Islamic Emirate will take a harsh stand against it by targeting it with special tactical and Jihadi operations which will force them to regret their illogical decision,” Mujahid said.

He also added, the Afghans have historically had good relations with Germany and have behaved with them valiantly however disappointingly, the German government is talking about prolonging the invasion of our country and has forgotten everything.

In a surprise move, Germany’s government announced on Thursday plans to keep up to 800 military trainers in Afghanistan after NATO combat soldiers withdraw in 2014. Though perhaps bold and symbolic, the move is also tactical in terms of upcoming elections.

It said Germany has the third-biggest foreign soldiers deployment in Afghanistan after the United States and Britain but has drawn down numbers from more than 5,000 to 4,200 now.

The alliance plans to keep 8,000 to 12,000 soldiers in the country from 2015 to train and assist the Afghan army as it takes on full responsibility for national security.  There are currently some 100,000 troops under NATO command in Afghanistan, including 68,000 U.S. soldiers whose numbers will be cut by roughly half this year.(T/P09/P03)
