Makassar, 23 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/13 February 2015 (MINA) – The Makassar city administration aims to boost its meeting, incentives, convention, exhibition (MICE) industry and culinary tourism this year in order to attract more tourists to the country’s fourth-largest city in South Sulawesi.
Makassar Tourism Agency head Rusmayani Madjid said her institution was busy improving facilities to support visitors to the city.
“We are currently upgrading the facilities at our Tourism Information Center, which is located at Losari Beach,” Rusmayani said on Friday, The Jakartapost quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Infrastructure like roads, public toilets, and signage would also be upgraded, she said.
According to Tourism Agency data, the number of domestic travelers visiting Makassar reached 3 million people last year, while foreign arrivals stood at 51,000.
She said the city had been recording between 27 and 28 percent annual growth in the number of tourist arrivals over the past few years.
“With some big events that will be held between March and December, we believe the number of visitors to Makassar can be increased by between 30 and 40 percent,” she explained.(T/P009/P3)
