West Bank, MINA – The Palestinian Centre for the Defence of Prisoners reported that Israel has arrested 1,700 Palestinian children in the illegally occupied West Bank since October 2023, in addition to dozens more in Gaza, with limited information available about the fate of some detainees, according to Middle East Monitor.
In a report titled “The Reality of Palestinian Children’s Detention in Israeli Prisons”, the centre documented more than 55,500 child arrests since 1967, noting that around 350 children remain imprisoned, including some serving sentences and others held under administrative detention.
The report states that arrests are often carried out through night raids and home incursions, with children reportedly detained while handcuffed and blindfolded.
It also cited testimonies indicating that children are subjected to beatings and abuse during transport and detention, as well as prolonged interrogations without the presence of a lawyer or family members.

According to the centre, detainees face solitary confinement, threats, sleep deprivation and attempts at coercion, which it says are used to exert pressure on them.
The report further states that sick children are denied adequate medical treatment, with delays in surgical care and reliance on temporary pain relief measures.
It also highlights concerns about malnutrition and poor living conditions, including the spread of skin diseases due to a lack of hygiene and limited healthcare inside detention facilities.
The organisation described these conditions as part of systematic violations affecting children during critical stages of their development.[]
