Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia advanced to the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup final after thrashing Bangladesh 9-2; Mitchell Lee Baker starred in the match by scoring five goals, including the decisive one.

In the first half of the match at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Thursday night, Indonesia held a commanding 6-1 lead over Bangladesh, with Mitchell Lee Baker (9) netting four of those goals.

During this match, Indonesia was in a race for goal difference against Malaysia, who were simultaneously playing against Singapore at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung.

In the second half, Bangladesh put up more of a fight with several attacks, but these were thwarted by Elkan Baggott (20), Rizky Ridho (5), and their teammates.

In the 76th minute, Elkan Baggott (20) nearly extended Indonesia’s lead with an on-target header, but goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon (1) pulled off a brilliant save.

Tension mounted as Indonesia failed to add to their tally by the 90th minute, while in Bandung, Malaysia was winning 6-0—a scoreline that left Indonesia trailing on goal difference.

Then, right at the 90-minute mark, Indonesia managed to score again through Luke Vickery (8), bringing the score to 7-1.

However, a minute later, Indonesia conceded a goal; Farhaan Ali Wahid scored Bangladesh’s second. The score stood at 7-2.

Indonesia needed two more goals during stoppage time.

Under immense pressure—so much so that goalkeeper Emil Audero even ventured into the Bangladesh penalty area during an Indonesian corner kick—Kevin Diks scored in the 90+6th minute.

The score became 8-2. Indonesia needed one more goal with just one minute remaining.

And astonishingly, Indonesia scored the decisive goal in the final minute of stoppage time. A rapid counter-attack led by Ole Romeny down the left flank took him into the Bangladesh penalty area, but two defenders quickly moved in to block his path.

Romeny opted to hold up play and instead delivered a cross to Baker in front of the goal.

GOAL! Goalkeeper Srabon, focused entirely on Ole, was helpless as Baker scored using his body. The scoreline stood at 9–2, giving Indonesia a superior goal difference over Malaysia—who had also secured a big win against Singapore—by a margin of one goal.

This advantage over Malaysia secured Indonesia a spot in the final, where they will face Group B winners Thailand on Monday, October 5, 2026. []
