Jakarta, MINA – The opening match of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Division 1 saw the Bangladesh national team face Malaysia at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium in Jakarta on Friday afternoon.

Competing in Group A, the “Harimau Malaya” (Malayan Tigers) defeated the “Bengal Tigers” with a 3-0 victory.

Dominating possession throughout the match, Malaysia scored their first goal in the 18th minute through Arif Aiman (10), who found the net with a shot from a tight angle.

Arif Aiman scored his second goal in the 37th minute after successfully dispossessing a Bangladesh defender inside the penalty area.

In the second half, it was Bergson’s (9) turn to score in the 52nd minute; he controlled a cross perfectly before executing a spinning shot that left goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon (1) unable to anticipate the ball’s trajectory.

Bangladesh’s best—and only—major opportunity came in the 75th minute when Hamza Choudhury (8) received a through-ball, setting up a one-on-one duel with goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli (23). However, the Malaysian goalkeeper managed to save Hamza’s shot.

The 3-0 scoreline secured the win for the Harimau Malaya squad. This three-point haul puts Malaysia at the top of Group A for the time being. []
