Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, along with 12 other foreign ministers, strongly condemned Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla attempting to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip.
The joint statement affirmed that Israel’s actions in international waters constitute a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the statement was signed by the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Turkey, Brazil, Jordan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, South Africa, Spain, Colombia, Mauritania, Libya, and the Maldives.
They assessed that the Global Sumud Flotilla mission was a peaceful civilian initiative aimed at drawing global attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by the blockade and Israeli military attacks.

In the statement, the ministers also urged Israel to immediately release the humanitarian activists detained after the fleet was intercepted near the Greek island of Crete. They expressed deep concern for the safety of civilian volunteers from various countries and demanded protection for international humanitarian missions.
Previously, Israeli naval forces intercepted dozens of Global Sumud Flotilla ships sailing from France, Spain, Italy, and Türkiye toward Gaza to carry food and medical aid. Several activists claimed they were held at gunpoint, their navigation devices were damaged, and emergency communication access was cut off during the interception operation in international waters.
Among the detained activists were Spanish citizen Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, who were then taken to Israel for interrogation.
The UN Human Rights Office affirmed that showing solidarity and providing humanitarian aid to Gaza residents is not a criminal act. Several European countries, including Italy and Spain, have also condemned Israel’s operation and demanded the activists’ release.
