Hight Air Tickets, President Asks Pertamina to Decrease Avtur Price

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo asked state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina to reduce the price of the sale of aviation turbine (avtur) fuel following the increase of air tickets.

He said that he had been shocked and just got information about over alleged monopoly the sale of avtur by PT Pertamina at Soekarno Hatta Airport.

President also mentioned that the price of avtur marketed by PT Pertamina was 30 percent higher than the international market price.

“If it cannot do that I will call other competitors so there will be competition,” he said in Jakarta on Monday night.

He said the high avtur price disrupted the aviation industry in the country. It will directly have an impact on high air tickets.

According to him, the price of aircraft fuel contributed as much as 40 percent to the price of tickets sold to consumers.

“[Tuesday] I will invite the Pertamina director [to the Presidential Palace],” he said.

If Pertamina does not reduce avtur prices, the President will allow other companies to market avtur in Indonesia.

“The choice is only one, the price can be the same as the international price, if I can’t, I will enter other competitors so that the competition occurs,” he said. (TL/Sj/P2)
