Washington, MINA – Demonstrators took to the streets in several US cities on Saturday to mark three years since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, calling on the US government to stop supplying arms to Israel and reconsider its military support.

In Washington, DC, protesters gathered outside the US Capitol, where Congress convenes, directing their demands at lawmakers. They called for an immediate halt to US military aid to Israel, arguing that American weapons and funding have contributed to the devastation in Gaza.

The location highlighted the demonstrators’ focus on Congress and the need for a change in Washington’s policy toward Israel.

In Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California, demonstrators gathered in public spaces carrying Palestinian flags and banners calling for an end to the war and the Israeli occupation. Participants expressed support for Palestinian rights and urged the US government to reconsider its longstanding backing of Israel.

In Dearborn, Michigan, home to one of the country’s largest Arab American communities, protesters carried Palestinian flags and demanded an end to the bloodshed in Gaza. The demonstration reflected the community’s strong ties to the Palestinian cause.

In Providence, Rhode Island, demonstrators chanted slogans in solidarity with Palestinians and renewed calls for an end to the war and respect for Palestinian rights.

Although the protests took place in different cities, they shared a central demand: an end to US military support for Israel. Demonstrators sought to increase public pressure on policymakers over Washington’s role in the conflict.

The rallies were part of a broader wave of pro-Palestine activism across the United States that has continued since October 2023, when Israel launched its war on Gaza following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.

According to the figures cited in the report, the war has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000. Around 90 percent of Gaza’s infrastructure has been destroyed, while more than two million people have been displaced and the healthcare system remains on the verge of collapse.

The United States has provided Israel with more than $25 billion in military aid since October 2023 and has repeatedly used its veto at the UN Security Council in votes concerning Israel. Washington’s continued support for Israel has fueled domestic opposition and mobilized a broad coalition of activists, students, faith groups, and community organizations.

Saturday’s demonstrations also coincided with the Global Day of Action for Palestine, an international mobilization spanning more than 60 countries.

Organizers said the US protests were intended to send a clear message to policymakers that calls to end American military support for Israel remain central to the growing movement in solidarity with Palestinians.[]
