Jakarta, MINA – The 7.4 Richter scale of tectonic earthquake hit Indonesian islands in the southern region of Sumatra and Java on Friday, August 2 at 19.03.21 local time.
According to Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake makes a potential of a tsunami with an early warning for some regions, including Pandeglang, Lampung with a maximum height of 3.0 meters.
Head of BMKG, Rachmat Triyono appealed to people in areas with “ALERT” status expected to pay attention and immediately direct the community to evacuate.
“To the people in the region with “WARNING “status, they are expected to pay attention and immediately direct the community to stay away from beach and river banks,” he said.
He asked the public to ensure official information is only sourced from BMKG which distributed through official communication channels that had been verified. (L/Sj/P2)
