Sana’a, MINA – Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces claim to have neutralized 1,250 Houthi fighters during a military campaign dubbed “Dawn of Yemen,” as fighting intensifies across several fronts in the war-torn country.

Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nazili said on Wednesday that government troops had carried out 2,309 targeted strikes using warplanes, drones, field artillery, rocket launchers and sniper units.

According to al-Nazili, the operations disrupted Houthi defensive positions, command centers, frontline deployments and supply routes, enabling government-aligned forces to make advances in several areas. He also claimed that more than 460 military vehicles and other pieces of equipment had been destroyed or damaged.

In Taiz province, southwestern Yemen, government forces continued airstrikes and ambushes against Houthi fighters and reinforcements, the spokesman said.

Al-Nazili accused the Houthis of attacking civilian infrastructure and residential neighborhoods in Taiz. He urged residents in Houthi-controlled areas to prevent their children from joining recruitment campaigns and to keep them away from military positions.

The military spokesman also reiterated an amnesty announced by Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi for Houthi fighters willing to surrender their weapons.

Separately, the Yemeni army reported capturing five Houthi commanders west of Taiz province, including senior commander Akram Amer, who holds the rank of major general.

The “Dawn of Yemen” offensive was launched earlier this month with the stated aim of retaking areas controlled by the Houthis, including the capital, Sanaa. Government-aligned forces have since reported advances on several fronts, including areas near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government has also intensified air operations against Houthi positions. Earlier this month, the coalition said 100 fighter jets had participated in one phase of the offensive and later reported that 136 military targets had been destroyed.

The escalation follows renewed fighting involving Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, including cross-border missile and drone attacks and intensified coalition airstrikes in Houthi-controlled territory.

Yemen’s conflict dates back to 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and forced the internationally recognized government from the capital. A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in support of the government in 2015.[]
