Gaza, MINA – The Hamas Movement has said the funeral of 75 Palestinian martyrs recently recovered from beneath the rubble in Gaza City’s al-Daraj highlights the catastrophic human toll of the Israeli genocidal war.

Hamas called on the UN and mediators to pressure the Israeli occupation government to lift restrictions on equipment and supplies required to retrieve remains of victims trapped under rubble in Gaza. The Movement also called for dispatching specialized search-and-rescue teams to assist Gaza’s civil defense crews in expediting body recoveries.

A mass funeral has been held for 75 Palestinians whose remains were found recently under the rubble of homes and buildings destroyed in the early months of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, the ministry of health announced. Hundreds of Palestinians attended the funeral procession before the remains were buried at the Sheikh Radwan Cemetery on Sunday morning.

The majority of the remains belonged to women and children who were inside their homes when they were targeted, according to media sources. The remains consisted of some body parts and personal belongings and were wrapped in Palestinian flags before the burial.

Abdullah al-Majdalawi, director of public relations and media for Gaza’s civil defense service, told the Turkish state news agency Anadolu that the remains had been recovered over recent weeks from several destroyed homes in Daraj.

He said the buildings were bombed while residents were inside during the early months of the war and that the victims belonged to about 20 Palestinian families, including people who had been displaced to the homes.

Efforts to recover bodies from beneath the rubble continue to face severe difficulties due to the lack of equipment and heavy machinery, he added.

The civil defense launched the second phase of its recovery operations last July. It recovered 333 bodies and the remains of 559 people during its first operation in November 2025.

The civil defense believes that the remains of another 8,000 Palestinians are still trapped beneath the rubble across Gaza.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s rescue teams are facing difficulties in identifying decomposed and charred bodies due to the lack of DNA testing equipment, complicating efforts to determine victims’ identities.

The absence of such capabilities has further delayed the process of returning the remains to their families and completing the necessary identification procedures.[]
