Tehran, MINA – Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran has resumed operations after temporarily suspending all incoming flights amid heightened military tensions between Iran and Israel.

The reopening of the airport was marked by the arrival of several flights carrying Iranian Hajj pilgrims from Saudi Arabia early Tuesday morning. Tasnim reported on Tuesday.

According to Iranian media reports, authorities at Imam Khomeini International Airport have once again permitted international flights to land, including those transporting pilgrims who have recently completed the Hajj pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

The move was taken after security conditions were deemed suitable for the resumption of flight operations.

Iranian aviation authorities had previously suspended all incoming flights on Sunday following Iranian missile strikes on Israeli territory. Tensions escalated after Israel launched retaliatory attacks, raising concerns over the safety of civilian air traffic in the volatile region.

The closure was the latest in a series of operational disruptions affecting Iran’s main airport in recent months.

Imam Khomeini International Airport, the country’s primary international gateway, had only fully resumed operations in April after being closed for several weeks due to conflict in the Middle East.

The airport’s reopening is significant for thousands of Iranian Hajj pilgrims currently returning home from Saudi Arabia.

Each year, tens of thousands of Iranians perform the Hajj pilgrimage, making reliable air transportation a vital factor in returning pilgrims to various parts of the country.

Although flight operations have begun to recover, developments in the regional security situation continue to be closely monitored. Tensions between Iran and Israel in recent weeks have affected regional air traffic, including flight rerouting and the temporary closure of several airspaces across the Middle East.[]
