POPULAR THAI ACTRESS SUTHIDA CONVERTS TO ISLAM

Bangkok, 10 Rabiul Awwal 1436/1 January 2015 (MINA) – Popular Thai actress Nook Suthida has changed her name to Assieh after she converted to Islam, Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

Suthida is now attending courses at a school in Bangkok to learn the Islamic principles and practice rituals, International Islamic News Agency (IINA) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Suthida has stated that she performs her daily prayers on time and has started learning Arabic to become capable of reading the Holy Qur’an.

Suthida said that despite many objections raised by people around her, she finally decided to convert to Islam. She took the decision after travelling to many countries for finding the most perfect religion.

Thai media in recent days was abuzz with reports about embracing of Islam by Suthida. The move has been hugely debated in the Thai media. (T/P011/R03)
