MB LEADER’S DAUGTHER CRITICISES CHARGES AGAINST HER FATHER

Cairo, 18 Dhulhijja 1434/23 October 2013 (MINA) – The Egyptian newspaper, al-Masry al-Youm reported that Khairat al-Shater, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood’s son criticised the accusation that her father has been collaborating with Hamas.

The Egyptian Public Prosecution renewed Khairat al –Shater’s detention as well as, the former parliament speaker’s, Saad al-Katatni, for a further 15 days on charges of “collaboration with the Islamist Palestinian movement, Hamas.”

Aisha al-Shater commented on her Facebook page, “Why have they renewed their detention based on the charges of collaboration with Hamas?”

“All the previous charges were fake and untrue. They added a new charge of collaboration with Hamas.”

The daughter, who is active on social media, also asked, “Is talking to Hamas an accusation? If so, why have all those who have spoken with Hamas in the past not been tried?”

At the end of her comment, Aisha said, “if discussing the Palestinian cause is considered a crime during this coup, then let me say that we are proud of that crime.”

Aisha Khairat Al Shater added on her Facebook page that a team including US deputy secretary of state had sought to meet her father but he refused, telling them to see Mursi instead.

“History will witness that when Dr Mursi was in power, Khairat Al Shater was accused of being in control of the Interior Ministry and the entire country, but he could not protect himself when the police raided his house, opened fire, unfairly detained him and fabricated cases against him,” she said.

Al Shater, widely viewed as the Brotherhood’s key strategist and financier, was detained days after Mursi’s overthrow and is being held in the high-security Al Aqrab Prison south of Cairo.(T/P01/P04).
