Al-Azhar Imam, Pope Francis to Work Together for Int’l Peace

 
Cairo, 2 Sya;ban 1438/29 April 2017 (MINA) — Working together to enhance peace, coexistence and cooperation was the focus of two separate meetings Pope Francis, of the Roman Catholic Church, has had with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, and Pope Tawadros II, of Alexandria.

The Pope’s visit to Egypt is a message of peace for all people as Al-Azhar and Vatican have a major symbolism for all Muslims and Christians, KUNA quoted Dr. Al-Tayyeb assaying in a statement following his meeting with the Pope.

Al-Azhar’s international conference for peace is part of a series of other congresses organized to cement bases of peace amongst different cultures and combat extremist ideas whose supporters kill many innocents in the name of religion, he said.

According to the statement, the Pope expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Al-Tayyeb for inviting him to partake in the conference, underlining the need of enhancing relations amongst nations and states.

In a meeting with Pope Francis, Pope Tawadros II affirmed that dialogue is a bridge for nations and a hope for humanity.

Pope Tawadros said the visit of Pope Francis to Egypt is a new step for love and cooperation between nations. (T/RS5/RS1)
