MASS MEDIA SHOULD PROMOTE IMPORTANCE OF CONSUMING HALAL PRODUCTS

Jakarta , 19 Rabiu’l Akhir 1435/19 February 2014 (MINA) – The Chairman of Indonesian Halal Products Foundation (YPHI) Muhammad Yanis Musdja said mass media should aggressively promote the importance of consuming halalan thoyyiban (halal and good) products to the society.

“Mass media has a very important and strategic role to raise public awareness of consuming halalanthoyyiban products. Indonesian people should pay more attention in choosing the products that will be bought,” said Yanis in the media discussion “Islam and Media Role” Jakarta, Tuesday.

Yanis also stated media institutions need to give training to their journalist in enriching knowledge about halalanthoyyiban concept. ” Journalist have to understand not only Al-Quran and Hadith, but also the substance of chemicals and their side effects,” said the experts who is also actively giving training of halal issue in international forums.

According to Yanis, if the journalists give correct information of halalanthoyyiban products, people can select safe, healthy and good products. So, manufacturers will implement halal certification of their products.

YPHI established in January 7, 2013 performs various activities to promote halalanthoyyiban products. The institution cooperates with the government, Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and other institutions including Islamic organizations, educational institutions and mass media to carry out education, distribution of information, and research of halalanthayyiban product s development in national and international level.

Yanis highlight Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, but unfortunately, there are just few of halalanthayyiban products. It happened because the government did not made certification as obligatory to manufactures.

Training For Journalists

YPHI cooperates with Mi’raj Islamic News Media (MINA) to promote halalanthoyyiban products to the society. Both institutions will hold a training for journalists to equip their knowledge about the importance of halal products to protect the public especially Muslims from consuming haram pproducts.

According to Yanis, the source of various diseases is from food. If the food is guaranteed halalanthoyyiban, it will be safe and healthy for consumption. (L/P04/P02/E01)
