Tel Aviv, MINA – Israeli authorities stated that around 3,000 of its citizens have become victims of retaliatory attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran amid the large-scale conflict that has been unfolding since late February 2026.

The statement came as Iran launched waves of ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) attacks targeting various areas across Israel.

The figure reflects the serious impact felt by Israeli civilians. Iranian drone and missile strikes over the past several weeks have shaken a number of major cities in the country, forcing Israel’s air defense system to operate at high intensity to intercept the waves of attacks.

In addition to fatalities, many residents have also suffered injuries and infrastructure damage, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Sunday.

The conflict began when the United States and Israel launched joint military strikes on several strategic facilities in Iran in late February 2026.

Iran’s retaliation then followed in stages, with several waves of drone and missile attacks targeting military bases, border areas, and urban centers.

Besides casualties in Israel, damage has also been reported in other countries in the region. For instance, recent reports mentioned a series of airstrikes that killed dozens of people in the Isfahan region of Iran, involving civilian industrial facilities during the attacks.

International security experts believe that the high number of civilian casualties in Israel indicates that the conflict has escalated far beyond a limited military confrontation.

The intensity of Iran’s retaliatory fire, including the massive use of low-cost drones, has placed heavy pressure on Israel’s air defense system, which has never previously faced attacks on such a scale. []
