Baghdad, MINA – The Iraqi government has announced that it has prepared a comprehensive plan to receive a potential influx of refugees from the Islamic Republic of Iran if the war situation between Iran, the United States, and Israel continues to escalate.

The plan has been submitted to a government committee and discussed with several international organizations to ensure coordination and readiness of humanitarian services in the event of a refugee influx. Al-Araby reported on Monday.

Iraq’s Ministry of Migration stated that, so far, no Iranian refugees have arrived in Iraqi territory, and movement between the two countries remains normal through border crossings.

However, Baghdad is increasing its emergency reception capacity, including the provision of temporary shelters, healthcare services, and basic logistics.

Furthermore, the Iraqi government is intensifying cooperation with international organizations and aid agencies to accelerate responses to urgent needs should the war have a broader impact on Iranian civilians.

This step is considered important given that the armed conflict has raised concerns over a larger regional humanitarian crisis.

Baghdad’s move comes amid ongoing conflict dynamics that are also affecting Iraq’s economy and national security, including trade disruptions and growing social impacts felt by Iraqi society.

The government emphasized that these preparations aim to mitigate humanitarian impacts and provide support for people forced to leave their home country due to war.[]
