Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian government has declared that 1 Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijri will fall on Monday. Accordingly, Idul Adha 1447 H / 2026 CE will be observed on Wednesday.

The decision was announced by Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar during a press conference following the Isbat (confirmation) session to determine the start of Dzulhijjah 1447 H, held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office on Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta on Sunday.

The determination of the start of Dzulhijjah was based on both astronomical calculations (hisab) and direct sighting of the new moon (rukyatul hilal) monitored across various regions of Indonesia. The Isbat session was led by the Minister of Religious Affairs and attended by representatives of Islamic mass organizations, Commission VIII of the Indonesian Parliament, astronomers, BMKG, BRIN, and other relevant institutions.

The Minister explained that the position of the new moon on the observation day was at an altitude between 3° 17′ 33″ and 6° 56′ 58″, with an elongation angle between 8° 54′ 49″ and 10° 37′ 7″.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs conducted new moon sightings at 88 monitoring points across Indonesia. Based on the reports received, the new moon was confirmed to have been sighted by two observers, KH. S. Azka and Zarkasi, in Lamongan Regency, East Java. Both were sworn in before the local Religious Court.

“Therefore, based on the results of astronomical calculations and the confirmed sighting reports that meet the requirements, the Isbat session has unanimously decided that 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijri falls on Monday, May 18, 2026 CE,” the Minister said.

The Minister expressed hope that the decision would serve as a guide for Muslims in Indonesia in observing the series of Dzulhijjah worship, including the Tarwiyah fast, Arafah fast, Idul Adha prayers, and the sacrificial rite.

“May this Idul Adha moment strengthen togetherness, reinforce Islamic brotherhood, and solidify our unity as one nation,” he said.
