Constitutional Court to Make Decision on Presidential Election Dispute

Jakarta, MINA – Starting from Monday to Thursday, judges of Indonesian Constitutional Court (MK) will conduct a closed meeting of judges to give decision related to the lawsuit of General Election Results Dispute (PHPU).

“This meeting was closed, only the panel of judges of Constitutional Court were related to the decision of PHPU lawsuit,” said Constitutional Law Analyst, Heru Wibowo in his statement in Jakarta on Sunday, June 23.

In this meeting, only the Constitutional Court judges involved, so there should be no other party attending this meeting. This is a process that is always carried out by the panel of judges when giving a decision in every constitutional claim.

“This meeting may not be attended by all parties involved in the PHPU lawsuit from the start of applicant, the respondent and related parties,” he said.

On Monday, he said there was no further trial of the PHPU lawsuit that held. All parties, he added, are currently only awaiting the verdicts of Constitutional Court judges in accordance with the stipulated schedule on Friday, June 28.

“All parties are waiting for MK to attend the verdict related to the PHPU lawsuit next Friday,” he added.

The trial hearing on the results of presidential election has taken place five times. The last session was held on Friday, June 21 with agenda of listening to the testimony of witnesses and experts related parties.

In the fourth session held on Thursday, the agenda was to listen to explanation of experts from the defendant, General Election Commission (KPU), which amounted to one person.

The third session was held on Wednesday, the applicant gave the number of witnesses 13 people and two experts.

The second session which was held on Tuesday, validated the evidence of all parties and the inaugural session on Friday which heard the explanation of legal counsel of all parties. (T/Sj/P2)
