Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Talks About Muslim in His Country

Jakarta, 23 Jumadil Akhir 1438/21 Februari 2017 (MINA) – Chinese ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng has had a meeting with the Central Board Chairman of the oldest Muslim organisation Muhammadiyah Haedar Nasir discussing issues of common interests and regarding missunderstanding in the country curently

“We are talking with Mr. Nasir on Muslims in China. Now there are 21 million Muslims in China,” he said after the meeting in Jakarta on Monday (20/2).

He said that the Chinese Muslims were mostly from ethnic minorities and  based on the legislation in force, the country also build cities and set up autonomous regions with their own legal preferences.

“For example, they can enroll in a university with a lighter standard than citizens in general so that they have a better chance to learn,” he said

Xie Feng explained that the Chinese government gives an opportunity for the people the right to embrace a religion, and also guarantees to protect it.

“Now you can see, Chinese Muslims participate to become legislators in parliament and the people’s consultative council in China. They participate in choosing and using their political rights,” he said.

He also said that there are about 33 thousand mosques, and 43 thousand influential Muslim leaders for the Islamic community in the country. In addition, a large mosque that is not only visited by locals, many foreigners also come to satisfy their curiosity and pray.

In China there are special canteens providing halal food, such as where he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and special stores selling halal food.
