Jeddah, MINA – Saudi Arabia has expressed its appreciation for Indonesia’s hajj organization this year. The recognition came during a meeting between Indonesian Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf and Saudi hajj authorities in Jeddah on Sunday, just before Indonesian pilgrims began returning home.
Minister Irfan Yusuf said the appreciation reflects the hard work of everyone involved in managing Indonesia’s hajj operations, from field officers and medical teams to the pilgrims themselves, who helped maintain order throughout the pilgrimage.
According to Irfan, Saudi officials noted that the management of hundreds of thousands of Indonesian pilgrims went relatively well, especially in terms of coordination, crowd movement, health services, and compliance with Saudi regulations. Indonesia sends the largest number of pilgrims of any country, making it a key focus of hajj operations every year.
Despite the praise, Irfan emphasized that Indonesia will not become complacent. Evaluations are still ongoing, particularly for services in Mina, the most congested area during the peak of hajj. Issues such as tent overcrowding, rest space, food distribution, and access to the stoning sites remain major challenges that need to be addressed with Saudi authorities.

Irfan said the success so far is the result of strong cooperation between the government, hajj officers, and pilgrims who followed the rules. However, he acknowledged that there is still room for improvement, especially in Mina, which becomes extremely crowded as millions of pilgrims from around the world gather there at the same time.
Indonesia plans to gather feedback from pilgrims and field officers to help improve services. In addition to Mina, evaluations will also cover transportation, accommodation, catering, and information systems used during hajj operations.[]
