Makkah, MINA – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, has urged Hajj pilgrims to increase their alertness against extreme weather in Saudi Arabia, which is expected to reach up to 43 degrees Celsius during the 2026 Hajj season.
The warning follows predictions of climatic conditions in Makkah and Madinah as they enter the early phase of summer, with daytime temperatures ranging between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius.
In several open areas such as Arafah and Mina, temperatures are expected to exceed those figures, potentially causing health problems for pilgrims.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of physical and mental readiness, considering that Hajj involves a series of outdoor activities.

Pilgrims are advised to maintain their health, drink plenty of water, and use protection such as umbrellas, hats, and sunglasses to avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
In addition, Hajj officers remind pilgrims to get optimal rest, at least six to eight hours per day, and to consume balanced nutritious food.
These efforts are considered important to maintain stamina amid high temperatures and low humidity levels in the desert region.
Operational data for the 2026 Hajj shows that thousands of Indonesian pilgrims have arrived in the Holy Land and some have begun performing their rituals. The government ensures that health services and assistance remain on standby to anticipate the impact of the heatwave, including the provision of medical facilities and health education for pilgrims.

As a note, extreme weather during Hajj is not without risk. In previous Hajj seasons, heatwaves were reported to have caused thousands of health cases and even fatalities. Therefore, vigilance is key to ensuring the safety of pilgrims while performing their worship in the Holy Land.[]
