Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian government has strongly condemned the installation of a banner reading “Rising Lion” by Israeli occupiers above the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) emphasized that the installation of the banner is a provocative act.
“The use of military symbols and propaganda atop a destroyed hospital, especially by linking it to a specific military operation, is a highly provocative and unjustifiable act,” the MFA statement wrote on X on Wednesday.
Indonesia stressed that hospitals and all medical facilities must be respected and protected under international humanitarian law.

“Indonesia urges Israel to cease all actions that violate the protection of civilian infrastructure and to ensure accountability for attacks on medical facilities in Gaza,” the MFA statement continued.
The ministry also asserted that civilian facilities fully dedicated to health services for the people of Gaza are not places for military propaganda or intimidatory messages.
“Such an act is an insult to the humanitarian facility built on the solidarity of the Indonesian people to help the Palestinian people,” the MFA statement said.
According to Middle East Eye, the long banner bearing the phrase “Behold, a nation rises like a lion, and like a lion it lifts itself” is believed to refer to a verse from the Torah. The phrase is also said to have inspired the codename for Israel’s war against Iran in 2025, namely “Rising Lion.”[]
