Alaska, MINA – US Vice President JD Vance has outlined the conditions Iran must meet to end the war.

In an exclusive interview with Reuters in Alaska, Vance stated that Iran must make “significant” reductions to its nuclear enrichment capacity to satisfy US demands and end the conflict between the two nations.

Vance, a long-time skeptic of US involvement in foreign wars, has played a key role in negotiating a resolution to the conflict and brokering an interim peace deal in June—an agreement that subsequently collapsed quickly.

The war has roiled global energy markets and become a political liability for President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections, Ariana News reported on Wednesday (Oct 7).

Speaking on Monday following a campaign trip to Alaska, Vance said that any agreement would require Iran to reduce its nuclear enrichment capacity, rather than simply offering assurances regarding future nuclear reductions.

“If you don’t want nuclear weapons, why do you need fuel enriched to 60%? And if you want to demonstrate a commitment not to build nuclear weapons, don’t produce highly enriched fuel. It is a very fundamental threshold issue,” Vance said.

Iran and the US have exchanged proposals in recent weeks aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy shipping lane. However, Trump rejected Iran’s latest offer and warned that military operations could intensify following the midterm elections.

Vance stated that the US remains open to a deal but demands concrete nuclear concessions from Iran. []
