Washington, MINA – Two Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, Greg Casar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, said on Monday they will vote in favor of an amendment to halt U.S. taxpayer funding for Israel’s military.
“Soon, the House will vote on an amendment to block taxpayer funding for Israel’s military. I will vote yes,” Casar, a Democrat from Texas who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, wrote on the social media platform X, as reported by Anadolu.
“The Israeli government is committing war crimes in Gaza and helping drag America into a war with Iran. The U.S. should not be funding more weapons for Netanyahu,” he added.
Ocasio-Cortez also confirmed to Drop Site News that she would support the amendment to the Fiscal Year 2027 State Department appropriations bill.

The amendment, introduced by Republican Representative Thomas Massie, would eliminate the $3.3 billion in annual foreign military aid that Israel receives. This aid is part of a 10-year, $38 billion memorandum of understanding signed in 2016, which runs through 2028. The amendment does not affect the $500 million Israel receives annually for missile defense systems, including Iron Dome.
Casar noted that the measure, as written, could also affect $50 million in diplomatic funding, but he said he would support it nonetheless. “While I would prefer to vote on an amendment that only cuts military funding, I think opposing billions of dollars in military funding is the most important thing here,” he said.[]
