Two Bruneian Qari Return from Jakarta Determined to Improve

Bandar Seri Begawan, 16 Rajab 1437/23 April 2016 (MINA) – Two Bruneian representatives returned from a Quran memorisation competition in Jakarta Friday determined to further improve themselves.

Irma Mohammad Hazmie Hj Matussin and Muhammad Aqiel Hidayat Hj Zulfa Hidayat took part in ‘The Annual Prince Sultan Bin Abd Aziz Al Saud Competition on the Memorisation of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah for ASEAN and Asia Pacific Countries’ that was held on April 17 to 21 at the Istiqlal Grand Mosque’s Hall.

Year nine student from the Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Institute, 14-year-old Muhammad Aqiel Hidayat took part in the Memorising 10 Juz (chapters) Al-Quran Category.

Upon arrival at the Brunei International Airport Friday, Muhammad Aqiel said that it was his first time to compete and he still had plenty to improve as the competition he faced in Jakarta was very stiff.

He further said that he would still want to join the next competition as the experience is hard to come by and there are a lot to gain and learn from by competing.

Similarly, Irma, who teaches at the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB), also said that the competition was stiff and there is still room for improvement.

Irma, who participated in the Memorising 20 Juz Al-Quran Category, said that his competition during the event has encouraged him to hone his skills especially in memorisation and melody. (T/R07/R01)
