Tianjin, MINA – The number of national teams qualifying for the 2026 AVC Women’s Continental Championship quarterfinals has grown from one to three following the conclusion of the second round of group stage matches in Tianjin on Monday.

Defending champions Thailand and hosts China secured their second victories of the tournament, joining Japan who had already qualified for the knockout stage on Sunday.

The event offers a qualifying spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and three berths for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Cup.

With three group winners, three runners-up, and the two best third-placed teams advancing to the knockout stage, five spots remain up for grabs. The final lineup will be determined over the next two days as the group stage concludes.

Defending champions Thailand are now in a secure position after defeating Southeast Asian rival Indonesia with a commanding 3-0 scoreline (25-16, 25-18, 25-15) in Group B.

With two wins, six points, and having not dropped a single set, Thailand is virtually certain to finish the group stage as one of the top two teams. Even if that scenario does not materialize, they would still qualify as one of the best third-placed teams. The other teams in this group are Kazakhstan (1 win, 3 points), Indonesia (1 win, 3 points), and Australia (no wins, no points).

China’s unstoppable run in Pool A

China did not have to wait long to celebrate their advancement to the next stage, thanks to a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-23, 25-14) over Iran.

In Pool C, Vietnam defeated Hong Kong 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-11), securing their first victory of the tournament and keeping their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive. They currently sit in second place in the pool with 3 points, trailing Japan (2 wins, 6 points) but ahead of Korea (1 win, 3 points) and Hong Kong (no wins, no points). []
