Jakarta, MINA – Bachtiar Nasir, the advisor to the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), urged the Indonesian government to immediately take emergency diplomatic measures following reports of the Israeli navy intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian ships in international waters.
In a statement on Monday, Bachtiar requested that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs act swiftly to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens participating in the humanitarian mission to Gaza.
“The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, must immediately take emergency diplomatic measures to ensure the safety of all Indonesian citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0,” he said.
He stated that the flotilla was a civilian mission carrying humanitarian aid and solidarity for the people of Gaza, not a military operation. Therefore, the siege and interception of the ships are considered violations of international law and human rights.

He emphasized that the Indonesian delegation carried a humanitarian mandate to defend the Palestinian people living under blockade and in a prolonged crisis.
In addition to urging the Indonesian government, Bachtiar also called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to pressure Israel to stop intercepting civilian vessels and release all detained activists. []
