Indonesian Police Confiscates Hundreds tons of Drugs in 2017

Jakarta, MINA – Throughout the year 2017, the Indonesian National Police has successfully confiscated hundreds of tons of drugs, consisting of 150 tons of marijuana and 2.5 tons of methamphetamine or shabu, an increase compared to the previous year.

Based on the year-end data released by the national police received by MINA on Friday (29/12), the number of evidences in the form of methamphetamine seized in 2017 rose 55 percent from 2016 with a total number of seized confiscated 1.64 tons.

While the number of evidence of marijuana seized in this year increased dramatically compared to the previous year of 11 tons. Police also seized ecstasy as much as 2.69 million pills by 2017. This number is also an increase from the confiscated goods in 2016 as much as 1.11 million ecstasy pills.

Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Gen. Tito Karnavian said the number of drug cases handled by the Police in 2017 decreased 5% to 45,257 cases.

With regard to drug cases, the police assigned a total of 56,791 suspects by 2017. Although the number of cases and the number of suspects has decreased, but the number of seized drug evidence has increased.

“So all the evidence seized by the police increases even though the number of suspects and cases is decreasing compared to 2016. The case in the spotlight is the disclosure of a ton of shabu in Serang Banten,” said the Chief of Police.

Police also took decisive action by shooting dead Indonesians and foreign nationals for taking resistance when they will be arrested.

“The Police has been also taken firm action against 55 drug abusers, consisting of 46 Indonesians and 9 foreigners during this year,” said Tito.(T/RE1/RS5)
