Indonesian Halal Agency Targets 300 Thousand Products Certification This Year

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) has officially become one of the units in the Ministry of Religion Since October 17, 2019. It has a mandate to issue halal certificate products which were previously under the authority of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI).

“This year we only work bi-monthly, with the possibility of 200 to 300 thousand products that will be certified and certainly continue to increase according to the budget allocation we propose,” said Sukoso as quoted from Republika.

Sukoso also targeted more socialization and coaching. With hope, more producers and entrepreneurs are aware of the importance of halal certification for their products. To realize the target, BPJPH has prepared prospective halal auditors and a number of halal examining institutions.

Until now, there are 240 halal auditors prepared by BPJPH, and still waiting for the competency test from MUI.

Sukoso explained the 240 halal auditors would later be distributed in Halal Examination Institutions (LPH) throughout Indonesia, where one of LPH was filled with at least three halal auditors,” Sukoso said.

However, he acknowledged the number of halal auditors could not match the number of products that needed to be certified immediately. According to him, every district should have at least three LPHs.

If it is accumulated in total, at least 1,500 LPHs are needed to reach 500 regencies throughout Indonesia. And if one LPH must contain three halal auditors, then the ideal number of auditors must be around 4,500 people.

“If asked whether this number is ideal or not, then the answer is no. But with a span of five years (2020-2024), we hope to be able to meet 5,000 halal auditors in 2023. The hope is so,” hoped Sukoso. (T/Sj/P2)
