Indonesian Community BLK to Complete Character Education in Islamic Boarding Schools

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Hanif Dhakiri said the construction of Community Training Centers (BLK) is a government program to complete soft skills and character in pesantren (Islamic Boarding Schools), with hard skills.

“With the presence of Community BLK in pesantren, santri and the community around them have access to job training that suits the needs of the local labor market,” said Hanif when signing the 2019 Phase I Community BLK Agreement in Jakarta on Wednesday noon.

Hanif said, the assistance program for the establishment of Community BLK has been started by the Ministry of Manpower since 2017 by establishing 50 Community BLK, followed by the establishment of 75 Community BLK in 2018, and 2019 would be established by 1,000 Community BLKs.

In 2019, Hanif continued, President Joko Widodo immediately gave direction to build 1,000 BLK in pesantren throughout Indonesia with a total budget of Rp1 trillion.

“Today we will be signing the MoU Cooperation with 500 pesantren receiving the first phase of the Community BLK program. The second stage will be planned by no later than mid-March 2019 for 500 more pesantren, “said Hanif.

With the existence of BLK, Hanif hoped that Indonesians has skill and qualified human resources with adequate numbers and spreaded into every provinces.

“Furthermore, with quality and competitive human resources, Indonesia will be able to jump forward to become the country with the fourth largest economy in the world, as predicted by a number of survey institutions,” said Hanif. (TR/Sj/P2)
