Indonesia Makes Registration Procedures for Overseas Halal Certificate

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Head of Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) Prof. Sukoso said, his party is in the process of finalizing the preparation of the Minister of Religion Regulation (PMA) on the Registration Procedures for Overseas Halal Certificate.

Prof. Sukoso conveyed when BPJPH held a focus group discussion (FGD) on the Preparation of PMA on the Registration Procedures for Overseas Halal Certificate and about Halal Labels and Non-Halal Information that took place in Jakarta, 14-16 October 2018. That was the written statement quoted from the Ministry of Religion website on Tuesday (16/10).

“This regulation contains provisions concerning the technical mechanism for the procedures for registering foreign halal certificates for halal products, including the validity period of overseas halal certificate registration submitted to BPJPH and the inclusion of halal labels on products,” he said in Jakarta, Monday (15/10).

Thus, halal products from abroad do not need to be submitted for a halal certificate application when they enter Indonesia but are sufficiently registered at BPJPH before being circulated in Indonesia.

The Registration Procedures for Overseas Halal Certificate is required as a basis for the implementation of BPJPH’s authority in registering certificates from halal products certified by foreign halal institutions. The institution in question is certainly the one who has cooperated with the Indonesian Government,” he explained.

In line with Sukoso, Head of the Center for Halal Registration and Certification, Siti Aminah stated that halal labels are the main reference for Muslims in buying something, especially in buying something produced.

Meanwhile, for producers who produce non-halal products, they can still produce and distribute it in the territory of Indonesia with the condition that they must include non-halal information on the packaging.

BPJPH will use non-halal information in the form of pictures, signs or writings that can inform that the product is not halal for consumption. It is also intended to provide clear protection and information regarding the product to be used. (T/Sj/RS5)
