Drug Abuse Number One Problem in Indonesia: President Jokowi Says
Jakarta, 15 Jumadal Awwal 1437/4 February 2016 (MINA) – Drug abuse is a major issue facing the nation, requiring intensive measures to deal with this problem, President Joko Widodo said.
“This tops the list of our major problems,” President Joko Widodo who is also known as Jokowi noted while chairing a limited cabinet meeting on drug eradication and rehabilitation program for drug abuse victims at the presidential office here on Wednesday.
The nation needs to seriously discuss issues related to the fight against the illicit circulation of drugs and the rehabilitation of drug addicts, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) reported, quoting Antara News.
Jokowi has urged to intensify measures to counter drug trafficking.
“I want the drug eradication efforts to be stepped up and carried out in a bolder, more aggressive, comprehensive, and integrated manner,” the head of state remarked.
Every concerned institution must keep aside sectoral ego in tackling the problem, he reminded.
“All must do it together since according to me, it is our number one problem,” he pointed out.
The fight against drugs must involve the National Anti-Narcotic Agency (BNN), National Police, Justice and Human Rights Ministry, Customs and Excise Directorate General, Education and Culture Ministry, Health Ministry, and Social Affairs Ministry, among others. (R07/R01)
