Al-Quds, MINA – Tens of thousands of worshippers performed Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque despite heavy military restrictions imposed by Israeli police at the mosque’s gates and the entrances to the Old City of Occupied Jerusalem, PIC reported.

The Islamic Waqf Department in Jerusalem estimated that approximately 70,000 worshippers gathered at the holy site. Israeli forces closed key roads and main streets leading to the mosque, inspecting IDs and preventing many Palestinians from entering.

Severe restrictions on access to Al-Aqsa, particularly on Fridays, have become routine. Israeli authorities also continue to bar thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank from entering Jerusalem without special permits, which are required to pass through military checkpoints surrounding the city.

Since the start of Israel’s offensive on Gaza in October 2023, the Israeli occupation has further tightened its crackdown on access to Al-Aqsa Mosque and Occupied Jerusalem.[]
