AL FATAH RESCUE TEAM HELPS BEKASI FLOOD VICTIMS

Bekasi , 17 Rabi al-Awwal 1435/19 January , 2014 ( MINA ) – Dozens of Al Fatah Search and Rescue (SAR) team on Sunday  gave logistics aid and rescue assistance to the residents of Duren Jaya, Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia.

Al Fatah teams cooperated with Indonesian National SAR, Jakarta and Bekasi branch also provided  flood relief assistance in several locations, such as in Bulak Kapal, Kranji, Perumnas Tiga and some other regions.

The chairman of Indonesian National SAR, Jakarta and Bekasi branch, Barokna stated, since the first time the disaster happened, his teams have never been absent in giving the help. “We are ready to help flood victims , especially in Jakarta and surrounding areas. We also prepared rescue teams in several areas of the north coast of Java Island,” he said.

“In Bekasi, there are some areas that are affected by the floods. They are in Tambun , Cibitung , CitraGrand , Rawa Lumbu and Bintara, ” he added .

Al Fatah SAR team chairman, Muqorobin Al Ayubi said : “As it has being planned, on Monday, our teams are going to give aids to people in some areas in Jakarta who are affected by flood, such as in Tomang, Pesing and Kapuk.”

The head of Duren Jaya resident,  Aziz expressed his gratitude to Al Fatah Rescue team and Basarnas who have helped them in evacuating residents and distributing foodstuffs to the people affected by floods.

Jakarta Floods Not Because of Rain

The chairman of Extreme Weather Meteorology , Climatology , and Geophysics Early Warning (BMKG ), Ahmad Zukri stated flood in Jakarta in 2014 is not due to natural factors , especially rainfall intensity. “Based on data, the rainfall in the Capital region of Jakarta in 2014 is lower than the rainfall occurred in 2013, ” said Zukri in Jakarta, Sunday.

“In addition , the rain fell since New Year’s Eve this year not as much as in 2013. Meanwhile , last year, the rainfall occurred  simultaneously for several consecutive days, with heavy intensity,” he said .

Ahmad Zukri compared, rainfall observation by BMKG of 18 points last year to this year on the day when the worst flood happened.

From 18 points observated locations in Jakarta, they showed rainfall decrease, in Tanjung Priok , Kemayoran , Pakubuwono , Halim , Cengkareng , Kedoya , Sunday Market , and Lebak Bulus.

Outside the capital, Gunung Mas and Citeko observation include the monitoring of Puncak, Bogor, and other West Java regions  as contributors to the flood beside the decreased rainfall. Rainfall at Gunung Mas decreases from 118.5 millimeters per day on 16-17 January 2013 to 25 millimeters per day on 11-12 January 2014. (L/P04/TR/E1)
