ABU DHABI TO HOST 2ND ANNUAL PEACE FORUM

Abu Dhabi, 5 Rajab 1436/24 April 2015 (MINA) – In an initiative to promote peace in Muslim societies, 350 religious leaders from around the world are due to meet in Abu Dhabi next Sunday (26/4), to attend the Second Annual Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies.

“The Forum was launched last year in the wake of examining the worsening condition of the Muslim world in recent years, marked by an unprecedented level of violence ,” according to the forum’s web site, On Islam quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

“Whilst the objectives of the inaugural round of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies was to declare war against war in order to bring peace upon peace, extinguishing conflagration and rescuing the distressed, deescalating tensions throughout the Muslim world; consequently the goal of the second round — is to reprogram priorities in Muslim societies; via habilitating hearts and minds to comprehend the salience of peace in our religion, Shari’a, and heritage.”

This forum is “an important event for the entire world. Its mission aims to lay the foundations of peace everywhere, and establish understanding among all peoples,” stated Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, a Mauritanian scholar and president of the forum, said.

“It is an important initiative that aims to refute extremist ideologies by making provision for real understanding of Islam as a religion of wisdom, compassion, tolerance and patience, as outlined in the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad,” he added.

This year’s forum will focus on various issues that are related to peace in Muslim countries. It will run from Sunday to Thursday, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

According to the schedule, the first two days of the forum would host entrepreneurs, technologists and artists who will deliberate with Muslim scholars to develop ideas for peace-building among Muslim populations.

During the second half of the programme, scholars will take part in workshops to promote peace and help to form a unified front against “the scourge of extremist ideologies, sectarianism, and terrorism that has afflicted the Muslim world for decades”, WAM further reported. (T/P006/R03)
